Root canal treatment removes infected pulp, disinfects the canal and seals the tooth so it can be kept. MOH benchmarks place it between $400 and $1,400 depending on tooth type, and CHAS subsidises it at higher tiers. Most cases finish in one to two visits, followed by a crown for protection.

All figures on this page trace to MOH's published fee benchmarks and the CHAS subsidy schedule. Find clinics offering this treatment, cross-checked against the Singapore Dental Council register, on the region and planning-area pages linked from the homepage.

What the root canal treatment guides cover

Root Canal vs Tooth Extraction: Which Is Better for a Severely Damaged Tooth?

A severely damaged tooth can either be treated with root canal treatment, which removes infected pulp tissue while retaining the natural root in the jawbone, or removed by extraction. Root canal treatment preserves root structure, periodontal ligament function, and surrounding bone; extraction removes all three, and the tooth's replacement, or lack of one, determines the lifetime outcome and cost.

Reversible vs Irreversible Pulpitis: Do You Actually Need a Root Canal?

Pulpitis is inflammation of the pulp — the nerve and blood vessel tissue inside a tooth — usually triggered by deep decay, a cracked restoration, or trauma. Reversible pulpitis resolves once the irritant is removed and the tooth can often be treated conservatively; irreversible pulpitis does not resolve on its own and typically requires root canal treatment or extraction.

Frequently asked questions

How much does root canal treatment cost in Singapore?
MOH benchmarks place it between $400 and $1,400 depending on tooth type, and CHAS subsidises it at higher tiers.
How many visits does root canal treatment usually take?
Most cases finish in one to two visits, followed by a crown for protection.
Does MediSave cover root canal treatment?
Standard, non-surgical root canal treatment is not listed on MOH's Table of Surgical Procedures, so it does not qualify for an ordinary MediSave surgical claim. The exception is peri-radicular (apical) surgery on more than one tooth, a listed TOSP procedure (class 3A, up to $1,390). From 1 June 2026, Flexi-MediSave separately lets those aged 60 and above claim up to $400/year toward root canal treatment and permanent crowns.
Is tooth extraction cheaper than root canal treatment?
The up-front fee for extraction alone is lower than root canal treatment plus a crown (MOH benchmarks: extraction $70-$164 vs RCT+crown roughly $1,150-$2,800). Whether extraction stays cheaper over the tooth's lifetime depends on whether the space is later replaced with an implant or bridge, both of which carry their own separate costs.
What happens to the jawbone if a tooth is extracted and not replaced?
Studies of extraction sites record a mean horizontal ridge reduction of about 3.79mm and vertical reduction of about 1.24mm within six months, with most of that change occurring in the first three months (Tan et al., 2012).
Can every tooth be saved with root canal treatment?
No. Teeth with a vertical root fracture, insufficient remaining structure to support a crown, or advanced periodontal bone loss around the root are not restorable through root canal treatment, and extraction is the applicable option regardless of patient preference.
Does CHAS help pay for a dental implant after extraction?
No. CHAS's 18-procedure dental subsidy schedule does not include dental implants, so CHAS cardholders receive no CHAS subsidy toward implant treatment, unlike root canal treatment, extraction, and crowns, which are all on the CHAS schedule.
Can reversible pulpitis be treated with antibiotics?
No. Reversible pulpitis is a localised inflammatory response to an irritant such as deep caries, not a spreading infection, so antibiotics do not address it. Removing the irritant and sealing the tooth is the standard management.
How do I find a dentist in Singapore who mentions root canal treatment?
383 of the 719 clinics listed on dentistsg.com mention root canal treatment on their own website, most of them in Orchard, Downtown Core, Hougang. Pick a suburb below to see them with ratings, hours and contact details. A mention is the clinic's own statement, not a verified treatment menu.

No. Cost ranges on this page come from MOH's published fee benchmarks and the CHAS subsidy schedule. dentistsg.com does not publish individual clinics' prices or compare clinics on price; ask the clinic for a written quote.
